A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR, ELLEN RAINEY
Welcome to Centro de Estudios Americanos, a school for learning Spanish and culture located in
Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. The school is located on the campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila. I hope you will see that the
course offerings reach a wide variety of people with a wide variety of needs: for the complete beginner, to refresher courses, to Master’s Level coursework.
Our
summer session is especially designed around the needs of high school and college students, teachers, and those wanting to expand their horizons linguistically and culturally. Those seeking a degree are urged to contact me as soon as possible to make arrangements for proper coursework. Those who do not wish to seek a degree, but just prefer to enjoy learning or improving their Spanish, are equally welcome!
New to the Summer session in 2008 is our
Summer Youth Camp. The format takes the kids OUT of the classroom and into the real world. Young people will select from 12 workshop-style courses (up to 6 different choices), including sports, arts and crafts, theatre, cinema, comic books, cooking, nature & hiking, music appreciation, creative writing, myths and legends, architecture, and games. Kids will spend one week at an alternate location (a family ranch near Saltillo, with professors and the director) and then return to Saltillo for the second two weeks. Limited time will be spent in the classroom setting, but instruction will be given so learning is enhanced while immersed in the culture. This is the ultimate in fun and learning!
The
winter and
spring sessions are shorter in length but accommodate those participants with overwhelming summer commitments (children, band, athletics, camps, etc), or those who just wish to visit Mexico over the Christmas holidays for a different cultural perspective.
Please know that those of us who run and work at CEA will do our very best to make your stay here in Saltillo one which you will remember fondly for many years to come.
Welcome!
